What is a CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture programs (CSA's) were originally developed to support a local farm by paying for produce in advance in the early spring when the farmer needs the "seed money."  Anyone who had paid in advance would share in the harvest all season as well as sharing the risk of bad weather, over supply, or crop failure with the farmer.  The Rhubarb Market CSA is considered a cooperative CSA, which minimizes the risks by gathering produce from several local farms rather than just a single grower.  This increases the variety and assures that there will be plenty of produce each week throughout the season.  A cooperative CSA program helps support more than one local farm while providing a greater variety of fresh fruits and vegetables for you!

The Rhubarb Market CSA provides you with 22 weeks of high quality vegetables, fruits and handmade food items from a number of small growers and produces in Central Washington. You can be assured that what you are getting is local and sustainable, and that you are helping strengthen and grow the regional food system of North Central Washington.

Real Food. Locally Rooted.

Different Sizes for Different Folks

Choose our Basic Share for two adults or a family wanting to try the CSA for the first time, or our Produce Lovers Share which is perfect for families or two adults who really love fresh produce.  During the summer our Basic Share box might contain

  • 1 head of garlic
  • 1 cucumber
  • 2 green peppers
  • 2 sweet onions
  • 1/2 pound of rainbow chard
  • 2 small eggplants
  • 4 ears of corn
  • 2 zucchini
  • 1 pound new potatoes
  • 5 peaches

And don’t worry: if you find that your share is too small or too large, we can change it for you!  We are flexible and will make sure you receive the best possible box for your needs.

Plenty of Options

CSA’s aren’t just about produce: you can also subscribe to a season of weekly bouquets using locally grown flowers from the Garden Girls, fresh baked bread from Homefires Bakery, salad greens from Tierra Garden Organics and farm fresh eggs from AM Eggs!

Weekly Newsletter

Every week you will receive a newsletter that contains information about our farmers or one of our unique food items.  There are always seasonal recipes that highlight the produce you have in your box so you know just what to do with things such as that knobby kohlrabi!

Occasional Surprises

We like to throw in some surprises during the season, whether it’s locally produced preserves, honey, nuts or jam.  But the best surprise of all is getting your box each week and seeing what’s inside!  The variety, color and fragrance of field-ripened produce is one of the best CSA perks we can think of.

Pick-Up or Delivery

Pick up you share of the bounty at our shop, Rhubarb Market, on either Wednesday or Thursday.  When you pick up your box you also have the opportunity to chat and grab those other essential items to round out your meals for the week.  We have cheeses, salsas, pasta and much more to help you get your weekly shopping done.

If you need your share delivered, we’ll be delivering to homes or offices in the greater Wenatchee area for an additional weekly fee.  If you live outside our delivery area but still want to take part in the CSA, give us a call – we are working on adding additional drop sites that may work for you!
